Nighttime roadwork set on U.S. Highway 101 in Blyn

Aug 14, 2023Aug 14, 2023

Travelers on U.S. Highway 101 in Gardiner will see two nights of construction early next week.

From 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 7-8 to 6 a.m. each following day, highway drivers will see one-way alternating traffic at the Eagle Creek work zone.

The work zone is located at milepost 274 about four miles east of Blyn. Drivers can expect limited congestion on the highway during the night work, state transporation officials said.

During both nights, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will pave a temporary single-lane bypass road and connect it to the highway.

Travel in the work zone will shift to the single-lane bypass road from 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 through 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18. During this time, travelers can expect around-the-clock one-way alternating traffic.

The work is related to a fish barrier removal project. Additional information is available via the WSDOT blog: wsdotblog.blogspot.com/2023/07/us-101-slowdowns-between-sequim-and-gardner.html.

Prepare for long backups

State transporation officials urge locals using the highway to prepare for long backups. They advise:

• Add up to 90 minutes of extra travel time to help prevent delays

• Consider postponing discretionary trips

• Travel early in the morning or later at night, especially on Monday, Thursday and Friday

• Carpool, use transit or telework if possible

Travelers are encouraged to sign up for email updates (public.govdelivery.com/accounts/WADOT/subscriber/new?topic_id=WADOT_542) for major roadwork in Jefferson and Clallam Counties. Real-time traffic information is available on the WSDOT app and travel center map.
